Description
  • Format - Player pitch format with full-roster batting and teams formed by a draft. This instructional league emphasizes fun while learning baseball fundamentals and introduces additional elements, such as, expanded base stealing, balks, longer base paths, pitching mounds and unlimited runs. Parents are encouraged to participate with managing, coaching, and coordinating team activities. Games and practices are intended to be fun for all players, no matter their talent level.
  • Season - Teams are normally formed in early April, with practices beginning soon after. Games generally begin on the first weekend in May and continue through mid-June. At the conclusion of the regular season, playoffs start and generally run through the end of June. All teams qualify for the playoffs, with seeding based on the regular season records. The timing of games and practices varies and is dependent on field availability and weather. The coaches determine how often and where practices occur and generally aim for 2-3 practices/games per week. Practices are typically 60-90 minutes and games are no longer than 2 hours.
  • Volunteer Positions - Parents are encouraged to participate. At the Majors level, the most important volunteer positions are the manager and coaches. Managers generally run the teams, and coaches help out at games and practices. Each team will be assigned a manager and a number of additional coaches. Please consider managing/coaching a team when registering and indicate in the notes if you have already spoken with other parents about coaching together.
  • Teams – Teams at the Majors level are formed via a citywide draft (no geographical limitations). Prior to the season, team managers participate in a draft to select their team rosters. At the draft, managers are supplied with information on the players generated by manager evaluations from previous seasons.
  • Equipment - All players will receive a game jersey, pants, socks, and hat. The league also supplies each team with balls and catcher’s equipment. Players supply their own gloves, batting helmets, and baseball cleats.
  • Bat Rule - Players may use any wood bat. The barrel size of any metal or composite bat may not exceed 2 5/8 inches in diameter and must be imprinted with the words “USA Baseball". Wood bats or bats with 2 5/8 inch barrels are strongly recommended for this age group.
